Calla Lilly Blooms

Calla Lillies are one of my favorite flowers. Watch this bead “bloom” with Calla Lillies. It is a fun and simple tutorial.

Arizona Getaway

You’ll notice that I wasn’t blogging last week.  I was celebrating my 25th anniversary with my husband in the beautiful state of Arizona.  Here are some pictures of our wonderful memories:

I don’t know if you can take enough pictures of these beautiful places when you visit.  I took hundreds of wonderful pictures to not only remember the places we went, but also to use as inspiration when creating and designing glass and jewelry.

Arizona is a must see state, put it on your bucket list!

Sunday Funday

Happy Sunday Everyone! I just want to share a couple of pictures of some of the projects I completed this week.  Special orders are  pouring  in for the holidays so make sure you get your requests in early.   I love a challenge and love collaborating ideas with clients so get creative and challenge me!

lampwork bracelet

turquoise and glass bracelet

Here is a turquoise and Italian glass bracelet accented with sterling silver and an Indian head replicated coin.  It is a great piece and compliments the necklace and earrings that go with it nicely.

black and white bracelet

black. white and clear dance well together on this bracelet.

I had such a good time creating this great piece.  I love how the black and white contrast but compliment each other and the swarovski crystals are the disco ball at the dance and make everything sparkle.

Hope you enjoy your weekend and create something that makes you smile.

This spider Won’t Hurt You

I found this YouTube video today that I thought you would enjoy. This guy in Romania makes these imploded spider pendants that are so cool. I think you will enjoy his very nice tutorial on how to make these unique beads. Enjoy!

Time to Make the Beads

Happy Thursday!  The weekend is almost here, not that it means any rest or relaxation, though I do get to go to the opera on Friday night at Simpson College.  Excited about that!   I hope you all are having a productive week.

Madison Co. Covered Bridges Fest 2010

We just returned home from a weekend at the Covered Bridges Fest in Winterset, Iowa.  If you were able to attend, you were treated to great weather, good food, and lots of terrific shopping from some very talented artists.  What more could you ask for?

Here are a few photos from a great festival:

This “Bugs” Me

This YouTube video is just too gross not to watch.  Even though it’s made of glass, this centipede looks so real.  Check out the intricate work on the legs and antenna.

Do you have a good bug video to share?

“Jewelry Duty” Friday

What gorgeous weather we’ve had this week here in the Midwest!  Summer is trying to hang on and I love it.  The Bright colors popping out in the trees is only magnified by the warm sun.  It’s great inspiration when sitting at the torch.

Well it’s Friday and time to recognize those people who command recognition in their field.  This week the list happens to be 3 jewelry designers.  But, they are all different as you will see when you visit their websites.

  • Zur Designs – Connecting with Deb through twitter has been nice.  I like her work and particularly love her wire wrapped rings.  She has an excellent eye for design.  Well done!
  • Gabriella Design – Maryann Peper-Reynolds is so multi talented.  She has so many beautiful things on Etsy but I fell in love with her paper flowers.  They are so delicate and lovely, I want a whole bouquet!  Nice Maryann!
  • Northern Sea Glass – Joni is so fortunate to be able to use the resources of the ocean.  She beautifully designs jewelry pieces using sea glass and sea pottery.  I love the sea glass jewelry.  Beautiful!

Creativity Explodes with Autumn

autumn treeThe inevitable is upon us, fall, which will lead to cold, snowy winters . . .but wait, let’s just focus on fall for now.    Every morning when I walk my greyhound, Goldie, the air is starting to get crisp.  A layer of cold dew lingering just a little bit longer on the grass, and the trees and bushes are slowly starting to explode with gorgeous color sort of like a Bob Ross painting gone wild.  As fall ignites trees to produce their best colors of the year, it also ignites my creative juices to bust out the glass colors that maybe I haven’t looked at since last fall. Crazy colors that you might not normally put together, orange and purple and yellow, red, burgundy and green, brown and yellow and red, all are acceptable in fall.

As you enjoy the beginning of autumn, take time to be a kid, lay on the ground looking up into a tree sharing it’s final gift of the year.  It’s the fireworks of nature!  It will surely stimulate your artistic juices to create something beautiful.

What is igniting your creativity right now?  Please share

“Jewelry Duty” Friday

gavelHere we are again, another hot, steamy, tropical day in the Midwest.  More rain is in the forecast, but I guess that beats snow.  Or, does it?  Anyway, I’ve had an interesting week trying to nail down plans for my upcoming “Trunk Show” here at the studio.

This week I am going to stray a little from the usual in listing my favorite artists who command recognition.   After all, isn’t every business a form of art in it’s own way?  Especially if it’s done right, so, here we go:

  • Sister’s of the Heart Tearoom – This cozy little tearoom is so refreshing and delicious.  They even have vegetarian options on the menu!  I love the friendly, down home atmosphere, great food and unique shopping experience they offer.  Well done!
  • Body Talk Heals – Sherri Hall is a licensed practitioner and has stopped my husband from snoring which helps me sleep better, and she helped me regain my energy level.  Awesome!  (Sherri’s new website is coming soon, in the mean time, connect with her on Twitter)
  • Simply for Giggles – Tanya Keith is really innovative in her approach to marketing her store.  It’s not only for kids but moms will love the creative opportunities just for adults.  Way to go!
