Just Beadiful Girlz Launch with “Noel”

Noel Doll

Just Beadiful Girlz first doll - Noel

I am so excited to announce the launch of Just Beadiful Girlz, a limited edition collection of darling little girl dolls.  They are each handmade from imported Italain glass, wire, and small glass beads and designed by me.  They stand about 2 1/2″ tall and can be ordered in either a pendant style or pin.

The first Just Beadiful Girlz doll is “Noel” and she is a cutie.  Noel has a lime green dress with candy cane trim.  She’s wearing red and green stockings and has red curly hair.  Each doll comes with a certificate of authenticity, signed and numbered by the artist. If you’re a collector of all things cute, then you won’t want to miss the opportunity to own Noel, who is the first in the series.

Visit the shop and order your Just Beadiful Girlz Noel doll before they are all gone.

“Jewelry Duty” Friday

What gorgeous weather we’ve had this week here in the Midwest!  Summer is trying to hang on and I love it.  The Bright colors popping out in the trees is only magnified by the warm sun.  It’s great inspiration when sitting at the torch.

Well it’s Friday and time to recognize those people who command recognition in their field.  This week the list happens to be 3 jewelry designers.  But, they are all different as you will see when you visit their websites.

  • Zur Designs – Connecting with Deb through twitter has been nice.  I like her work and particularly love her wire wrapped rings.  She has an excellent eye for design.  Well done!
  • Gabriella Design – Maryann Peper-Reynolds is so multi talented.  She has so many beautiful things on Etsy but I fell in love with her paper flowers.  They are so delicate and lovely, I want a whole bouquet!  Nice Maryann!
  • Northern Sea Glass – Joni is so fortunate to be able to use the resources of the ocean.  She beautifully designs jewelry pieces using sea glass and sea pottery.  I love the sea glass jewelry.  Beautiful!

Creativity Explodes with Autumn

autumn treeThe inevitable is upon us, fall, which will lead to cold, snowy winters . . .but wait, let’s just focus on fall for now.    Every morning when I walk my greyhound, Goldie, the air is starting to get crisp.  A layer of cold dew lingering just a little bit longer on the grass, and the trees and bushes are slowly starting to explode with gorgeous color sort of like a Bob Ross painting gone wild.  As fall ignites trees to produce their best colors of the year, it also ignites my creative juices to bust out the glass colors that maybe I haven’t looked at since last fall. Crazy colors that you might not normally put together, orange and purple and yellow, red, burgundy and green, brown and yellow and red, all are acceptable in fall.

As you enjoy the beginning of autumn, take time to be a kid, lay on the ground looking up into a tree sharing it’s final gift of the year.  It’s the fireworks of nature!  It will surely stimulate your artistic juices to create something beautiful.

What is igniting your creativity right now?  Please share

Sometimes it’s about stepping back and simplifying your work or day.  What have you done to “simplify” today?

5 Creative Brain Foods

the smallest things ignite creativity

In this fast paced, busy world we live in, it’s often hard to find your creative juices.  And, if you do, sometimes it’s just a fleeting memory of your busy day.  Sometimes it’s hard running a business, wearing all or most of the hats, and still find time to be creative. After all, being creative is what brought you to this point in your career, or made you take that leap of  faith to branch out on your own.  Here’s 5 things that I do to help feed my creative mind:

  • Listen to my favorite music while working; often we get in the rut of having the TV on when in fact it can stifle our creativity.  Try classical music for a change.  It’s very calming and inspirational.
  • Take time to really look at nature; I love to go outside and check out nature in my own yard or nearby bike trail.  Things as simple as the texture of a lamb’s ear plant, or the veins in a hosta, or a butterfly landing on a petunia, or a song bird flitting from tree to tree.  Lately, I’ve been watching a pair of robins, in a tree outside of my studio window, nesting.  First, building their nest together, now taking turns sitting on the eggs, patiently waiting for them to hatch.
  • Go for a walk; take a walk around your own neighborhood.  Look for patterns in landscapes, houses or sidewalks.  A broken sidewalk is a great design idea or just a reminder that not everything we do in life is easy.
  • Go through some of your own past work; this is why you want to photograph your work whether it’s professional or just a snapshot.  You can keep your pictures in an album or on your computer and refer to them when your not feeling very inspired.  You can always take an old design and put a fresh twist on it.
  • Take a drive; I grew up going for rides with my family so taking a drive in the country with my favorite station on the radio is brain food for me.  When you go for a drive look at the horizon.  What do you see?  When you pass through a small town, take time to go inside the small hardware store and close your eyes.  Smell the “oldness” of the building.  Look at the quirky tools for sale and buy a pack of gum just to interact with the owner.

These are just 5 of the techniques I use when I’m not feeling very creative.  What do you do when you need to ignite your creativity?  I would love to hear what lights your passion.
